Beware Baleno, i20 and Polo - Tata Altroz Is Coming. 5 Things To Know

Tata Motors is all set to enter the Premium Hatchback segment with the All-New Premium Hatchback – The Altroz. The Segment is ruled by Maruti Baleno, Hyundai i20, Honda Jazz and the Volkswagen Polo. Reports suggest buyers are moving up the ladder and prefer feature-loaded and bigger cars. The Tata Altroz is the biggest hatchback Tata Motors has manufactured yet and is expected to be priced in the range of Rs 5.5 lakh to Rs 8.5 lakh (ex-showroom).


With the Altroz, Tata Motors is getting into a segment where the buyer wants features, safety, comfort and power. What should we expect from the All-New Altroz here? 


1. All-New Interiors based on the Harrier and the Nexon.

The Altroz is expected to come with Plush New Interiors based on the Harrier and the Nexon with a Floating Touchscreen and a Digital Console. Android Auto and Apple Carplay will be present. 


2. IMPACT 2.0 Design Language

Based on the company's IMPACT 2.0 design language, the Tata Altroz gets sleek and sporty styling along with bold looking character lines on the sides. The rear end of the car has large wrap-around tail-lamps and the previous teaser suggests that the car will come with dual-tone paint schemes.


3. The Gold Standard

Tata Motors is launching The Altroz in distinct New Colors, with Gold being the primary color in the marketing materials. With these bright colors Tata Motors aims to attract millennial buyers and create a buzz around the Altroz.


4. PowerTrains 

The Altroz is expected to be powered by the Nexon's 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol motor that’s good for 108hp or the Tiago's 1.2-litre, naturally aspirated mill that pushes out 82 horses. Diesel powerplant options is not known for now. Altroz will also only come with a 6speed manual transmission at the launch. An AMT transmission or a 6speed slushbox can be expected at a later stage, when Tata Gravitas is launched with the Automatic option. 


5. Safety 

Tata Nexon is the only car which has got a 5Star rating in the GNCAP test. The Tata Altroz is expected to be as safe as the Nexon if not more. Based on the ALFA platform, the Altroz is expected to come with a complete airbag system, ABS, EBD amongst other safety features.
