Coming Soon: Sub-Rs 20,000 e-bike

British electric bike and lifestyle brand GoZero Mobility says it is planning a number of India-specific launches for E-Bikes this year including a mass segment e-bike called GoZero Lite that will be priced under Rs. 20,000 and GoZero Delivr, a specialty e-bike for the B2B space targeted at delivery ecosystem that requires more speed.

E-bike is an electric bicycle that comes with an integrated electric motor which can be used for propulsion.

While the mass e-bike is expected by May, the B2B specialty e-bike is expected by February this year GoZero Mobility CEO, Ankit Kumar told BW Businessworld recently.

The sub-Rs 20,000 e-bike will be a single variant, the lightweight e-bike that will be equipped with a 250W rear hub motor, 200Wh detachable battery and an LED display. It will have a range of 25 to 30 Km, and a 3-levels of pedal assist.

By the middle of December, the company will be launching GoZero Delivr, focused on B2B, it will be an e-bike that would generate money as they will have a range of 75-80 kilometer per charge.

“Right now, the focus is to keep on introducing new products as we intend to expand this category. We wanted to introduce at least 10 products in the next two years.  Today, we have only two products. We are working on GoZero Lite, a mass segment e-bike that will be available early this year. We are looking to price it in the bracket of Rs 15,000-20,000.”

Via GoZero Lite, the company hopes to disrupt the e-bike market as the low price tag is expected to attract more customers. According to Kumar, the reason why Hero Electric is doing well because it offers a bike at a price of Rs 17,000-18,000 which is its highest selling bike.

“Our bike will become the cheapest electric bike in the country to compete with Hero Electric,” Kumar said.

It may be recalled that GoZero Mobility had announced its foray into the Indian market with the launch of two electric bikes-Miles and One-priced at Rs. 29,999 and Rs 32,999 respectively. The Birmingham-based firm has tied-up with Kolkata-based Kirti Solar to develop and manufacture current range as well as future products. As a part of the association, the latter has invested $250,000 in GoZero Mobility.  The company has already set up a manufacturing facility in Kolkata, West Bengal with an initial capacity of 20,000 units per annum. Nearly 650 units of both the models have been delivered since August till date.

“Surprisingly, ‘One’ gives us the maximum numbers. We thought that Mile-priced at Rs. 27,999 will give us more volumes because of its affordable price tag. So 70 per cent sales are from ‘One’, which is Rs 30,999 post the GST reduction from to 5 per cent,” said Kumar, adding, “We are able to generate volumes from both tier-1 and tier-2 cities.
