Mahindra and Mahindra the makers of the Bolero and Scorpio have launched The Alturas G4. Essentially a rebadged Sangyong Rexton, the Alturas G4 is premium full-size SUV. Until now Mahindra’s most expensive product was the XUV500, with the Alturas G4 Mahindra is entering the market ruled by the likes of Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour.
Speaking at the launch, Dr. Pawan Goenka, Managing Director, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd said, “The launch of the Alturas G4 is a significant moment in the automotive journey of Mahindra which will take the brand to the next level. With the Alturas G4, we have decided to adopt an endorsed brand strategy which will heighten brand desirability & aspiration. The product is the epitome of luxury in every sense. Therefore we believe the Alturas G4 aptly redefines royalty which is also its positioning.”
The Alturas G4 looks humongous, the vehicle has a very imposing stance when looked head-on. And the New SUV from Mahindra comes loaded with kit. HID Headlamps with LED Daytime running lights are standard along with LED Foglamps with Cornering lamps. The tail lamps are LED as well. Alturas G4 gets 18” alloy wheels as standard but considering the size of the vehicle, even the 18inchers look a tad small. For the Sunroof lovers, there is an electric sunroof present in the standard equipment list.
Mahindra Alturas G4 comes with all the bells and whistles expected from a 30Lakh rupee vehicle along with a few first-in-class features as well. The interiors are finished in quilted Nappa leather upholstery, the front seats are ventilated, this feature alone will make you go wow! The driver seat is electronic and 8-way adjustable with memory function but that’s not all, the Alturas G4 has another party trick with the driver seat – As you open the driver side door the electronically operated seat moves back to give you more room to enter, Easy Access Mode in Mahindra’s Marketing Speak. It’s the end of 2018 and Mood lighting, ambient lighting has been a thing, yeah The Alturas G4 has it as well. Alturas G4’s best party trick is the 3D surround view camera with 4 cameras, yes we have seen it more expensive cars, yes its old news but the competition doesn’t have it. It is not really a gimmick, tight spaces and kerbs can easily be navigated using this 3D camera system. Did we mention Powered tailgate? Its there and its kind of smart, you stand with the key in the pocket behind the tailgate and it opens. But what if you just want to stand behind the Alturas and not open the tailgate? We will have to see.

The Alturas G4 get s 7” LCD instrument cluster with three modes – Regular, Animation and RPM-linked. While the infotainment system in the centre of the console gets 8” touchscreen unit with Android Auto and Apple Carplay and 6 speakers. There is an Electronic Parking Brake with an Auto-hold function to make the traffic stops easy for the driver. Cruise Control, Steering controls etc is all there. The ORVM’s tilt downwards when you shift into reverse, this is indeed a nice function that will be appreciated by the users.
Coming to Safety, the Alturas G4 has the whole brigade of safety technology currently on offer in the market. ESP, ARP (Active rollover protection), Hill start assist, TCS, ABS+EBD and Hill descent control systems are all there. There is a total of 9 airbags including driver seat, passenger seat, driver’s knee protection, side airbags in 1st & 2nd rows, and curtain airbags
The Alturas G4 is powered by 2.2 litre 4-cylinder engine producing 133.1 kW (178 BHP) power and 420 Nm of peak torque. And No This is not Mahindra’s MHawk 2.2 engine. This engine features an e-VGT for maximum performance at all rpms. It also comes with a Mercedes-Benz 7-Speed automatic transmission and is available in both 2WD and 4WD variants
In an effort to make the Alturas G4 customers feel being a part of a premium brand, The Alturas G4 would be exclusively available through separate high-end showrooms within the existing Mahindra ‘World of SUVs’ dealerships. These outlets will be equipped with ultra-modern digital technology to provide an enhanced and immersive high-end experience for customers. All Alturas G4 customers will have access to exclusive Relationship Managers to cater to their requirements.
The Alturas G4 will be available in 2 variants – 2WD and 4WD, and 5 colours – Napoli Black, Pearl White, Dsat Silver, Regal Blue and Lakeside Brown

This is the biggest launch from Mahindra in 2018 after the XUV500 facelift and the Mahindra Marazzo MPV.
