Maruti Suzuki Launches e Vitara Electric SUV in India

Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has unveiled its first electric SUV, the e VITARA, at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 in New Delhi. This strategic move aligns with India's decarbonisation objectives and addresses the evolving mobility needs of consumers.
Built on the newly developed HEARTECT-e platform, the e VITARA offers two battery options: 49kWh and 61kWh. The 61kWh variant delivers a range exceeding 500 km, based on in-house test results. Designed to withstand diverse climatic conditions, the vehicle's lithium-ion battery operates effectively from -30°C to 60°C.
The SUV is equipped with advanced features, including Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), seven airbags as standard (including a driver-side knee airbag), and a digital cockpit with a twin-deck floating console complemented by a premium sound system by Harman. Passenger comfort is prioritised with ventilated front seats and a versatile rear seating system, enabling flexible boot space.
To support EV ownership, Maruti Suzuki has introduced the "e for me" ecosystem, which includes smart home chargers, plug-and-play DC fast chargers at dealerships, and a dedicated app for managing charging needs, route planning, and payments. Mr. Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and CEO of MSIL, stated, "We are preparing 1,500 EV-enabled service workshops across 1,000 cities with specially trained manpower and equipment to address all EV-related support, including roadside assistance."
Manufactured in India, the e VITARA is set to be exported to over 100 countries, including key markets like Japan and Europe. Mr. Toshihiro Suzuki, President of Suzuki Motor Corporation, highlighted India's role in this initiative: "For this purpose, we have chosen India as the global manufacturing base due to its quality products and scale merit. And this is exactly the vision of Hon'ble Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi, to Make in India."
The e VITARA enters a competitive segment of India's electric SUV market, contending with models such as the Hyundai Creta Electric, Mahindra BE 6, Tata Curvv EV, and MG ZS EV. The Hyundai Creta Electric offers two battery options: 42kWh and 51.4kWh, delivering ranges of 390 km and 473 km, respectively. The Mahindra BE 6 features 59kWh and 79kWh battery variants, providing ranges of 556 km and 682 km, respectively. The Tata Curvv EV is available with 45kWh and 55kWh battery packs, offering ranges of 430 km and 502 km, respectively. The MG ZS EV comes with a 50.3kWh battery, delivering a range of 461 km. In this context, the e VITARA's 61kWh battery option, with a claimed range exceeding 500 km, positions it competitively within the segment.
The e VITARA will be available through Maruti Suzuki's premium NEXA channel, offering two battery configurations and ten colour options, including four dual-tone variants. It will be introduced in a phased rollout across the country. This development reflects Maruti Suzuki's commitment to transforming India's automotive landscape and underscores its focus on sustainability and innovation. With the e VITARA, the company aims to position itself as a frontrunner in India's growing EV segment.
