Making India Atmanirbhar: Can India Become World Leader In EVs?

Electric Vehicles (EVs) are becoming more popular in India and the EV market is expected to grow by 94.4 per cent between 2021 and 2030, according to data.

Over two million electric vehicles were sold in 2018, up from a few thousand in 2010 and this trend shows no signs of slowing. Passenger electric vehicle sales are expected to reach 10 million in 2025, 28 million in 2030 and 56 million in 2040.

Events like climate change, advances in renewable energy and rapid urbanisation have created an opportunity for electric mobility to enter the mass market.

Regarding the accessibility of electric vehicles in India, Sakshi Vij, Founder and CEO of Myles said that the reachability of EVs is very important, so, we try to increase market penetration and decrease the hesitation of people regarding electric vehicles in interaction with Sudhir Mishra, Managing Partner at Trust Legal.

On the future of EVs, Vij said that we still have a long way to go given that despite being the fourth largest vehicle market in the world, our annual vehicle sale in India is probably equal to the monthly sale in china.

On the recent boom in the drone sector, Ankit Kumar said that this industry grew at 200 per cent at year on year basis and we expect 500 per cent growth by next year. In 2021-22, we saw 250 drone startups and may see many more by 2023. Kumar is the CEO of Skye Air Mobility.

India will be the hub of drone manufacturing by 2023, added Kumar.

Kumar also claimed that we are in the business of drone which has 70 to 80 per cent fewer carbon footprints compared to the conventional mode of transportation and people are accepting in several sectors just not like in e-commerce but also in agriculture.

2022 was big in terms of the progress of electric vehicles, indeed people start asking if it is a successful swap but what about scale? So yes, the future will be Atmanirbhar like my company which is totally self-dependent in terms of manufacturing and production, CEO and co-founder of RACEnergy, Arun Sreyas said.

Anmol Bohre, co-founder and Managing Director of Enigma Auto also believes that EVs are going to be the future of mobility and said he intends to spread his business from 7 states to more states. Our company is growing at the speed of 300 per cent and remained profitable, he claimed.

Indian govt and start-ups are putting full of effort to make India, a world leader in the EV sector.
