Taking a step toward renewable energy, India’s largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki has set up a 20 MegaWatt Peak solar power plant at its Manesar facility in Gurugram.
This solar plant is designed in the carport style where the solar panels have been mounted on the overhead shade in the parking area. The facility has space to park about 9,000 vehicles.
The plant will produce 28,000 MWh per annum of solar power and will contribute to over 11.5 percent of the power requirement at the Manesar facility.
The power generated at this solar plant would be equivalent to the energy required for the production of over 67,000 cars annually.
Maruti Suzuki had installed its first solar power plant in 2014 with a 1 MWp capacity at its Manesar facility, which was later expanded to 1.3 MWp. Further, the company commissioned a 5 MWp carport-style photovoltaic solar power plant at its Gurugram facility in 2020.
Now with the new 20 MWp solar plant at Manesar, the Company’s combined solar power generation capacity, across its plants, now stands at 26.3 MWp.
Maruti says that this expansion will lead to the avoidance of 20,000 tons of CO2 emissions per year.
