The parent firm of Maruti Suzuki, Suzuki Corporation, has revealed its strategic plan for the years ahead. The manufacturer said in the aforementioned regulatory filing that it would launch its first electric vehicle in India in FY 2024, followed by five additional electric vehicles by FY 2030. However, it should be highlighted that the first electric Maruti Suzuki won't arrive until 2025, according to the Indian financial year.
The EVX Concept, which will be Maruti Suzuki's first electric car available with an electric motor, was on display at the recently held Auto Expo 2023. The automaker has also stated that the production eVX will measure 4.3 meters in length and run on a 60 kWh battery pack with a stated range of 550 kilometres.
Suzuki has also said that in addition to battery electric vehicles, which will make up 15 per cent of the total powertrains available, it will also explore alternative fuels such as biogas and ethanol fixed-fuel, which will make up a significant 60 per cent of powertrains. Future Suzuki vehicles may be equipped with the remaining 25 per cent of powertrains, which will be hybrid powertrains.
Suzuki Corporation also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian government and Banad Dairy back in August 2022 to establish a Biogas Demonstration Project in an effort to increase the usage of biogas-derived gasoline. The facility will be built in Gujarat, and operations are scheduled to begin in the middle of 2024.
The Suzuki-Toyota partnership will also endure. Both companies will collaborate on developing automotive technologies such batteries for electrified cars, autonomous driving and safety technology, and biofuel marketing in addition to sharing models in India.
