Next month, Mercedes-AMG will launch its first plug-in hybrid vehicle in India. The Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance in question is the company's first high-performance plug-in hybrid vehicle. On April 11, 2023, the AMG PHEV will be unveiled in India.
Beginning with appearance, the PHEV doesn't look all that different from the conventional AMG GT 4-Door, which made its debut in India in 2020. With updated bumpers, fresh badging, and redesigned wheel designs, the overall silhouette remains the same. The elegant four-door coupe exterior is where the major alterations are located, though. The 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 now has an electric motor connected to the rear axle, increasing performance to 831 horsepower and a maximum torque of 1,470 Nm. Outside of the limited-edition One, the GT 63 S E Performance is AMG's most potent road vehicle in terms of combined horsepower.
The electric motor is rated at 201 horsepower and up to 320 Nm, while the petrol V8 is capable of 630 bhp and 900 Nm and is mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission. The end result is a top speed of 316 kmph and a 0-100 kmph time that is comparable to supercars at 2.9 seconds. In EV mode, the vehicle's 4Matic+ all-wheel drive system even enables the motor positioned on the rear axle to deliver power to the front wheels through the prop shaft if it detects excessive rear-wheel slip.
A 6.1 kWh battery pack and electric motor are included, providing enough power for around 12 km of the electric-only drive. Yet, according to Mercedes-AMG, the car can reach speeds of up to 130 kmph when operating solely in the electric mode because the battery pack was designed to provide the greatest output feasible rather than to maximise range.
The interior's dual 12.4-inch displays, which sit above the dashboard and house the digital instrument cluster and centre touchscreen, are a common feature for most new Mercedes. AMG-specific interior features including the steering wheel, sports seats, and sportier interior textiles and trimmings are included in the cabin.
Competitors for the AMG GT 63 S E Performance include the Panamera Turbo S e-Hybrid, among others.
