Uber has added a number as a new safety feature for riders in India, on Tuesday. Uber took this step as the central government is trying to make use of rear seat belts compulsory. Uber claims that its app will provide notification to its customers if the driver takes an unexpected route during the ride.
Uber's new safety features include an ‘SOS’ button on its application with state police in select cities. This feature is currently available in Hyderabad only and talks are underway to activate it in major metro cities as well. With this feature, users will be able to share information, driver information, vehicle information and live location with police in case of danger.
The company has a live support helpline which will be accessible to riders for up to 30 minutes after the end of the trip. The company claims that this helpline will answer almost every incoming call within minutes.
Uber stated in its previous audit report about making an economic impact worth Rs 446 billion last year.
