Gujrat Announces A New EV Policy, Rs 870Cr Support Over 4 Years

Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has announced a new Electric Vehicle (EV) policy in the state with electric vehicle buyers now getting subsidies of Rs 10,000 per kWh on purchase.

According to the new EV policy, the state of Gujrat will be providing subsidies to the tune of Rs 870 crore over the period of four years. Electric Two-Wheelers in the State will get up to Rs 20,000 subsidy. Electric three-wheelers or E-Rickshaw will be subsidized by up to Rs 50,000 while electric four-wheelers will get a subsidy of Rs. 1.5 lakh. Furthermore, subsidies will be directly transferred to the beneficiary via DBT.

Additionally, all-electric vehicles will be exempted from the registration fee, Under this policy.

The government also plans to set up 500 charging stations across the state and will provide subsidies of up to Rs 10 lakh on the construction of such charging facilities. Till date, approval for 250 charging stations has been granted, said Rupani.

Sohinder Gill, Director General, Society of Manufacturers of electric vehicles (SMEV) reacting to the Gujrat EV Policy said “We thank the government of Gujarat for announcing a promising and a bold EV policy.  The policy certainly has the potential to make Gujarat an EV hub and would mobilize a rapid adoption of electric vehicles in the state. We are excited to be part of this journey and would put our all efforts towards achieving the state government’s target under the policy.   The policy also gives thrust on the charging infrastructure that would address the issue of range anxiety, especially amongst the  people who want to buy an electric four-wheeler.”
