How HumSafer Driver Safety App Has Taken Road Safety A Notch Above

HumSafer Driver Safety App is a smart app dedicated to the safety and well-being of commercial drivers in India. The app is also provided for free for others to benefit from it as well. With an end-to-end solution and an incentive-based program, this one-of-a-kind app is dedicated to bringing the instances of road accidents to zero by 2025- all while fulfilling a comprehensive well-being program for a highly marginalized trucker community. 

In an interview with BW Autoworld Jehaan Kotwal and Sumedh Mane, Cofounders of HumSafer Driver Safety Foundation, spoke about their tech offering and more.

How prevalent is the use of such high-end safety apps?

In the US and Globally, over 6.5 million users use these kinds of App-based technologies.

It is growing in popularity as personal safety is a growing concern given the unpredictability on roads. As it is asset-light and helps give personalized driver behavior Many like to improve their skill and reduce their insurance premiums.

How has the response to this app been so far?

We are growing at over 1k drivers per week organically with zero marketing/branding cost. The drivers find it very useful and are sharing it with their friends and colleagues.

Our focus has always been to let our product do the talking for us. As this industry relies heavily on word of mouth and trust it is paying off well for us. OEMs and large FMCG companies have also partnered with us as it fits their safety culture and creates additional revenue for them.

Many state govts and auto companies are also working on such initiatives, is there any collaboration in place ?

We are collaborating with professors from IIM-A and IIT-D for further R&D on user behaviour and scoring systems. Some auto companies are our customers as well but we haven’t built the product with them. Unfortunately, we have not found anyone as laser-focused as us on just truck drivers and Cv segment. When we do we will be happy to collaborate.

What are the distinctive features of your offering?

Apart from real time corrective behaviour which is the foundation of everything we do. We are giving family tracking and sleep detection as a free service to all our users. Our rewards system which encourages good driving behaviour is what is retraining drivers to become safer drivers.

What are your funding plans and how much has been raised so far?

We did a seed round with influential HNI and family offices at the end of 2020. We are now planning to raise a minimum of 6 million dollars in our Pre-series A round to introduce new revenue streams and also to fuel growth.
