India Is A Top Destination For Global Mobility Investments, Says PM Modi At Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation’s aspirations and achievements in the automotive sector during his inauguration speech at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025. Highlighting the milestones reached and the vision for the future, he emphasized India’s growing stature as a global automotive hub and its commitment to sustainable mobility.
India’s Automotive Growth and Aspirations
The Prime Minister reflected on the transformative journey of the Indian automotive industry. Last year, the industry recorded a 12 per cent growth rate, driven by initiatives like Make in India and Make for India. Exports have significantly increased, showcasing India’s capability to cater to global demands. He noted that India, now the world’s third-largest passenger vehicle market, sells more cars annually than the total population of many countries.
PM Modi also expressed optimism about India’s trajectory towards becoming one of the top three global economies, envisioning a strong correlation between this growth and the expansion of the automotive sector. He acknowledged the aspirations of young Indians, describing them as a driving force behind innovation and economic progress.
The Middle-Class Dream and Infrastructure Development
The Prime Minister paid tribute to visionaries like Ratan Tata and Osamu Suzuki for enabling the middle-class dream of car ownership. Over the past decade, 25 crore Indians have emerged from poverty, with many purchasing their first vehicles—a reflection of India’s evolving socio-economic landscape.
He highlighted significant infrastructure investments, including ₹11 lakh crore allocated for smart roads and highways. He also mentioned advancements like the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan and National Logistics Policy and Fastag, which have revolutionised travel by making it faster and more efficient.
Green Mobility and Sustainable Innovation
PM Modi emphasized India’s commitment to green mobility, citing the dramatic 640 per cent increase in electric vehicle (EV) sales over the past decade. In 2014, only 2,600 EVs were sold, a number that surged to 16.8 lakh by 2024. With government initiatives such as the PM E-Drive Scheme, India aims to support the purchase of 28 lakh EVs and install over 70,000 fast chargers.
He reiterated India’s focus on alternative energy sources, including biofuels, hydrogen, and solar power. He encouraged startups to explore battery storage innovations using materials readily available in India, noting the potential for significant investments in this area.
Policies and Global Opportunities
The Prime Minister credited the PLI schemes for driving sales worth ₹2.25 lakh crore and creating over 1.5 lakh direct jobs. The vehicle scrapping policy and innovation-driven manufacturing were also highlighted as pivotal steps towards building a sustainable automotive ecosystem.
India’s efforts to attract foreign direct investment and create opportunities for global players were underscored. PM Modi urged investors to see India as a land of opportunity, where the government’s “Make in India and Make for the World” mantra ensures a supportive environment for business growth. The automotive sector has attracted $36 billion in Foreign Direct Investment over the last four years, a figure expected to grow exponentially in the coming years.
Vision for the Future
PM Modi envisioned a future where India leads in both the economy and ecology. He highlighted the shift towards autonomous and smart vehicles, which align with India’s aspirations for cutting-edge innovation. He also spoke about the seven Cs—Common, Connected, Convenient, Charged, Clean, Cutting-edge, and Congestion-free, that form the foundation of India’s mobility goals.
The Prime Minister concluded by expressing confidence in India’s ability to shape the future of global mobility. With a young, dynamic population and a government committed to progress, India is poised to become a beacon of sustainable innovation in the automotive world.
