JSW MG Launches Four EV Ecosystem Initiatives At DriEV.Bharat

New platforms aim to simplify charging, repurpose batteries, educate consumers, and enhance in-car connectivity; company also hints at upcoming affordable EV

SW MG Motor India has unveiled four new electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem initiatives at DriEV.Bharat, an industry event held at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, on 6 August 2024. The company, in collaboration with leading industry players, introduced these initiatives to advance EV technology and infrastructure in India.

The first initiative, eHUB by MG, is an OEM-led charging platform designed to simplify the EV charging experience. It provides access to a wide charging network through partnerships with providers such as Adani Total Energies Limited (ATEL), BPCL, and Jio-BP.

Project REVIVE, the second initiative, focuses on repurposing EV batteries for use beyond cars. In partnership with TERI, Lohum, and BatX, this project aims to utilise EV batteries as renewable energy storage systems for community applications.

EVPEDIA, the third initiative, is a dedicated EV education and knowledge platform for electric cars. It offers practical tools, government policy information, and an AI-powered chatbot named 'eVir' to address user queries.

Lastly, the company announced the MG-Jio Innovative Connectivity Platform (MG-Jio ICP), which will be a standard feature in upcoming MG vehicles. This platform introduces features like the MG App Store for in-car entertainment, voice commands in six Indian languages, and a Home-to-Car functionality.

Gaurav Gupta, Chief Growth Officer at JSW MG Motor India, said, "DriEV.Bharat reflects our commitment to advancing EV technology and enhancing the user experience to accelerate EV adoption. With initiatives such as our unified charging platform, battery second-life project, EV education, and the MG-Jio ICP, we are empowering the industry as well as our customers with smarter, more sustainable choices."

The event also featured a panel discussion with industry experts from EY and IIT about the long-term benefits of EVs.

JSW MG Motor India, which has previously launched the MG ZS EV and the MG Comet EV, aims to install 1,000 community chargers nationwide. The company has engaged with over 1,500 startups and collaborated with more than 50 colleges to drive EV education and skill development through initiatives like MGDP and MG Nurture.

Looking ahead, JSW MG Motor India is planning to launch a new electric vehicle called the Windsor. Based on the Wuling Cloud EV from Indonesia, the Windsor is expected to be priced under Rs 20 lakh, potentially making it one of the most affordable long-range EVs in India. The company claims it will offer a range of up to 500 kilometres, with 37kWh and 50kWh battery options.

The Windsor is set to be feature-rich, with a 15-inch main infotainment display, six cameras, Level 2 ADAS, and a 5-star rated chassis. With dimensions of 4,295mm x 1,850mm x 1,652mm and a boot capacity of 500 litres, it promises to be spacious. The car will reportedly offer 134 bhp of power and 200 Nm of torque, positioning it as a compelling option in the growing Indian EV market.

These initiatives and upcoming launches underscore JSW MG Motor India's efforts to develop a comprehensive EV ecosystem and accelerate EV adoption in India.
