Kia India Reports 22% Decline With 16,331 Units In October 2021

Kia India registers total sales of 16,331 units in October 2021, 13percent up compared to 14,441 units in the previous month of September 2021. However, a 22% drop compared to October 2020 where the carmaker had sold 21,021 units.

Seltos became the highest-selling mid-SUV for the month, contributing 10,488 in Kia India's total sales, while the Sonet and the Carnival contributed 5,443 and 400 units, respectively. Led by the sales of Seltos, Kia India has achieved a steady performance, despite the ongoing semiconductor shortage.

The CY21 has been a year of milestones for Kia India, with Seltos clocking two lakhs and Sonet registering one-lakh unit sales since their respective launches. Adding another achievement in the year, the sales of the company surpassed 1,50,000 mark in CY21. The company has registered 1,59,641 units till October in CY21 compared to 1,07,657 units in the same period of 2020 with 48% Y-o-Y growth.

Tae-Jin Park, MD and CEO, Kia India said, "The adverse supply chain situation has been an opportunity lost for us; however, our customers' and vendors' continuous support has enabled us to maintain a healthy performance throughout the year. As we foresee the issue to continue for the next few months, we assure our customers to keep optimizing our production to the maximum level and ensure delivery at the earliest.  We are keeping a close eye on the situation and are ready to take the necessary steps as and when required."

Since the start of COVID-19 pandemic, the automotive industry and many other sectors across the globe have been struggling with the semiconductor crunch. This acute gap in the demand and supply of semiconductors has led to an increased delivery time of vehicles. Despite challenges, Kia India has been optimising its production to keep the waiting period at a minimum. The company expects the supply chain will begin to normalise from early next year.
