BEST Unleashes AC Electric Double-Deckers

Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport Undertaking (BEST) has deployed ten air-conditioned electric double-decker buses in the Kurla and Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) regions.

This initiative, following the retirement of non-AC double-decker buses in October, promises significant relief for suburban commuters.

These buses, which currently have a fleet of 39 AC double-decker buses and have placed an order for 200 more from bus supplier Switch Mobility, not only make commuting more comfortable and eco-friendly but also significantly contribute to the development of the city's transportation infrastructure.

Although twenty of these buses are now on the island city's routes, ten more are soon to be seen in the BKC and Kurla suburbs before eventually making their way to other suburban routes.

The installation of a charging station is ongoing.

The BEST representative talked about the schedule for launching the ten double-decker buses in the Kurla-BKC regions and mentioned that charging stations are still being installed in the suburban areas.

When the required infrastructure is in place, these buses will begin to travel. By March 2024, the full fleet of 200 air-conditioned electric double-decker buses from BEST is expected to be in service, placed thoughtfully throughout its 12 depots to enhance and broaden Mumbai's public transportation system.

BEST's Suburban Green Initiative

The deployment of air-conditioned electric double-decker buses by BEST in suburban areas is a response to the pressing needs of suburban commuters.

The introduction of these eco-friendly buses in the Kurla BKC region aims to provide a more convenient and sustainable commuting option for residents.

Additionally, Automatic dual-sided entry is a convenient feature that passengers can enjoy. Safety and comfort features include on-board CCTV cameras and mobile charging stations.

This initiative represents a constructive step in improving Mumbai's public transport system and reducing the city's carbon emissions.
