The Delhi administration on Monday prohibited the running of BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel four-wheelers in the national capital till 9 December. Administration took this step following the stage III restrictions imposed by the Centre's air quality body under the Graded Response Action Plan.
The prohibition does not apply to vehicles used for government or election operations or for emergency services. Commuters who are caught breaking the rule will be fined Rs. 20,000.
The Delhi administration has took this type of step earlier as well during the festive time of Diwali, to control and bring down the pollution generated from vehicle pollution and stubble burning.
