After being teased since 2020, Sony and Honda's electric car project, Afeela, is finally gearing up for production, with initial sales planned exclusively for California, USA. At its CES press conference, Sony Honda Mobility announced pricing and preorder details for the Afeela 1, which will be available in two trims: Afeela 1 Origin priced at $89,900 (approximately ₹82 lakh) and Afeela 1 Signature at $102,900 (around ₹94 lakh). Both trims include a complimentary three-year subscription to various in-car features, such as Level 2+ driver assistance and an AI-powered personal assistant.

Preorders commence today for California residents, requiring a $200 refundable deposit. The Afeela 1 boasts an EPA-rated range of approximately 482 km (300 miles) and features built-in support for Tesla's Supercharger network. Currently, the only paint option is Core Black. Deliveries for the Signature trim are expected to begin in 2026, while customers opting for the Origin variant will have to wait until 2027.

The latest prototype, showcased by Sony Honda Mobility CEO Yasuhide Mizuno, exhibits design elements reminiscent of both the Lucid Air and Tesla models, featuring short overhangs and a long wheelbase. This collaboration leverages Sony's expertise in consumer electronics and Honda's storied history in the automotive industry. The vehicle is equipped with over 40 sensors and cameras to facilitate semi-autonomous driving, all-wheel drive, and augmented reality integration, embedding virtual elements into the driving experience. Mizuno demonstrated cutting-edge technologies debuting with Afeela by summoning the car onto the stage using a voice command through his phone, stating, "Come on out, Afeela." The interior features multiple screens and incorporates Sony's renowned audio technology.

This announcement coincides with reports that Honda, Sony's partner in this electric car venture, may merge with Nissan to strengthen its position in the evolving automotive landscape. Sony Honda Mobility has scheduled an additional press conference at CES to provide further details about the Afeela vehicle.
