Indian roads never fail to surprise us. Unexpected elements can pop out from anywhere. From no-lane driving to pedestrians crossing busy highways to cars coming from the wrong side, driving here often feels like navigating an obstacle course. Two-wheelers making sudden turns, animals wandering onto highways, and the absence of lane discipline make road conditions chaotic. Today, it has become almost impossible to drive safely on Indian roads. Despite this, no matter how cautiously one drives, in case of an accident it’s always the fault of the car driver, isn’t it?

In fact, India is one of the busiest countries in the world in terms of road traffic, and according to a report, road accidents in India surged by 11.9 per cent in 2022, underscoring the increasing need for better road safety measures. So, what’s the solution?

In today’s driving environment, installing a dashcam has become more than just a luxury—it’s a necessity. Recently, Hero Electronix launched its Qubo Dashcam Pro, marking its entry into the Indian auto tech space. Touted as India’s first designed and made-in-India dashcam, the Qubo Dashcam Pro 3K + Rear Cam Set comes with a host of useful features. After using it for several days, here’s my review of this homegrown solution for road safety.

Design & Build Quality

The Qubo Dashcam Pro 3K has a modern, compact design, which ensures it doesn’t obstruct the driver’s view. Both the front and rear cameras feel sturdy, with a matte finish that looks sleek and blends well with most car interiors. The mounting system is straightforward and solid, relying on adhesive mounts, which are durable even on bumpy roads. The rear camera is compact enough to be installed discreetly, while still offering a 120-degree wide field of view.

Camera Performance

The primary selling point of the Qubo Dashcam Pro is its 3K (2592x1944p) resolution, delivering crisp and clear footage. During daytime driving, the video quality is excellent, capturing road signs, license plates, and street details with clarity. It supports a 140-degree field of view, which is wide enough to cover multiple lanes of traffic without distorting the image. You can also review the realtime footage on the 3.2-inch LCD IPS display.

Low-light performance is often a concern with dashcams, especially in poorly lit areas. The Qubo Dashcam Pro features Wide Dynamic Range (WDR), which adjusts exposure to ensure a balanced image. While night-time footage does experience some noise and grain, it still performs better than many competitors in this segment.

In contrast, the rear camera offers 1920x1080p resolution, which is adequate but not as sharp as the front camera. For everyday use, it performs well enough to document rear-end incidents or unexpected impacts.

The voice clarity in recording is also good. Users also have the option to turn voice recordings on or off based on their preference via the QuboPro app.

Features & Usability

Qubo has equipped the Dashcam Pro 3K with a range of smart features. Key among them is the in-built GPS, which records the vehicle’s location and speed on the footage—an essential feature for both business fleet management and individual users. The dashcam also supports loop recording, ensuring continuous capture by overwriting older files once the storage (supports up to 1TB microSD) is full.

Another useful feature is the G-sensor, which automatically locks footage if it detects an impact or sudden jolt, making it indispensable for accident documentation. It also has a parking mode, which records video if any movement is detected while the car is stationary, though this requires a separate hardware kit for constant power.

Installation & Connectivity

Setting up the Qubo Dashcam Pro 3K is relatively user-friendly, even for non-technical users. Both the front and rear cameras come with long-enough cables to be routed cleanly through the car’s interior. However, depending on your vehicle, the cable length for the rear cam might be tight, particularly for larger cars or SUVs, requiring careful planning during installation.
The dashcam’s power cable features a USB A port, making it compatible with older vehicles. For those who prefer not to occupy a USB port in the cabin, the 12V lighter adapter provides a convenient alternative.

One downside is the lack of a bundled SD card, which means an additional purchase is necessary before you can begin recording. This adds a layer of complexity and additional cost for first-time users. But once you install the SD cards you are almost done. Now, all you need is the QuboPro app to set up the camera.

The dashcam pairs seamlessly with the QuboPro app, available on both Android and iOS. The app allows users to view live footage, download video clips, and even back up crucial files to the cloud, ensuring data security. The process of connecting the device is generally smooth, though users may experience occasional latency when streaming live footage. Importantly, the app also supports cloud backup, allowing users to store critical footage externally—a great feature for those looking to avoid data loss in case of theft or damage.

Pricing

The Qubo Dashcam Pro 3k + Rear Cam set comes with MRP of Rs. 20,990 but one can get it for as low as approximately Rs. 9,000 – Rs. 11,000 via online retails channels.

Verdict

The Qubo Dashcam Pro 3K + Rear Cam set delivers on most of its promises. It excels in daytime video quality, comes with a rich feature set for both business and personal use, and is easy to install and operate. However, it does have limitations in night-time video clarity, and its rear camera could benefit from higher resolution. Overall, for users looking for a dashcam solution that combines good video quality with practical, tech-forward features, the Qubo Dashcam Pro 3K is a strong contender in the mid-range market. With unpredictable road conditions and rising accident rates, the Qubo Dashcam Pro is an investment that could save you from financial and legal trouble down the line.

Why should you Invest in a Dashcam?

  • Dashcam helps record untoward incidents
  • Provides concrete video evidence
  • Avoids incorrect challans
  • Assists in insurance claims
  • Helps protect against false accusations
  • Allows playback, download, and viewing of camera footage on smartphones

Conclusion

Dashcams have evolved from a niche accessory to an indispensable tool for today's drivers. Whether it's providing evidence in accidents, preventing insurance fraud, or monitoring driving behavior, dashcams offer a myriad of benefits that have made them a key part of modern driving. As technology keeps improving, dashcams are likely to become even more advanced and common, playing a bigger role in keeping roads safe.

So, the next time you drive on India's unpredictable roads, don’t rely only on your driving skills—bring along the watchful eye of a dashcam. It will help you navigate the chaos with more confidence. After all, on Indian roads, it's always smart to be ready for the unexpected.
