Carmaker, JSW MG Motor India has launched the MG Windsor EV, touted as India's first Intelligent Crossover Utility Vehicle (CUV). Combining the characteristics of a sedan and an SUV, the MG Windsor is positioned to compete with manual compact SUVs in terms of pricing. With BaaS – a unique ownership program, MG Windsor is offered at INR 9.99 lakh + Rs. 3.5 per km for battery. The bookings will commence on the 3rd of October 2024.

Built on a Pure EV Platform, the MG Windsor offers an aerodynamic design, spacious interiors, and smart connectivity features. It is equipped with a 38 kWh Li-ion battery pack, delivering 100KW (136ps) of power and 200Nm of torque. With four driving modes—Eco+, Eco, Normal, and Sport—the vehicle offers a range of 331 kilometers on a full charge. The car's battery can be recharged in approximately 40 minutes using a DC fast charger.

Comfort has also been prioritised with features such as Aero Lounge seats that recline to 135-degree, an Infinity View Glass Roof, segment largest boot space of 604-litre and a 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen display.

Industry First Initiatives:

  • A lifetime battery warranty to the first owner
  • Assured 60 per cent buyback after 3 years/45,000kms
  • 1-year free charging at public chargers through the eHUB by MG app

One of the highlights of the launch is the introduction of a unique ownership model, "Battery-as-a-Service" (BaaS). This program reduces the upfront cost of the car by eliminating the cost of the battery, allowing buyers to pay per kilometer driven. The company claims that the running cost is 40 per cent lower than traditional fuel-based vehicles, making electric vehicle ownership more affordable for customers.

JSW MG Motor India is also offering a lifetime battery warranty to the first owner and one year of free public charging. Additionally, the company has rolled out a "3-60" buyback plan, assuring customers that their Windsor will retain 60 per cent of its value after three years or 45,000 kilometers of use.

The launch of the MG Windsor comes at a time when automakers are increasingly focusing on electric vehicles (EVs) as a more sustainable and cost-effective option for consumers. JSW MG Motor India is hoping to address common consumer concerns around the higher upfront costs of EVs with its BaaS model, while also enhancing the appeal of electric vehicles through a range of premium features.

With its blend of advanced technology, a flexible ownership model, and competitive pricing, the MG Windsor is expected to attract a wider audience to the EV market in India.
