Power Minister Seeks UK Investment In Green Hydrogen Sector

Union Minister R K Singh on Tuesday invited UK investors to participate in the upcoming bids for green hydrogen and lithium-ion, an official statement said.

The power and renewable energy minister met COP26 President Alok Sharma here on Tuesday. At the meeting, Secretary (Power), Secretary (MNRE) and High Commissioner of UK in India were also present, the statement issued by the Ministry of Power said.

'During the meeting, discussions were held on the need of increasing storage capacity in view of India's ambitious target of having 450 GW (gigawatt) of installed renewable capacity by 2030. The UK side was invited to participate in the upcoming bids for green hydrogen and lithium-ion,' it added.

According to the statement, the UK has expressed its willingness for collaborating with India on green hydrogen.

The COP26 President raised the issue of phasing out of coal-fired power plants in the meeting.

Singh informed the delegation that India is the only G20 country whose actions are in accordance with the NDCs (nationally determined contributions) set under the Paris Agreement.
