To mark its 60th anniversary Yamaha has launched a new edition of its flagship 155cc supersport motorcycle YZF-R15M. This edition is inspired by the World GP YZR-M1 and stands as a reminder of Yamaha’s first-ever Grand Prix.
In 1961, Yamaha made its first appearance in the road racing world championship Grand Prix and this year, it completes its 60 years.
So what’s the difference between this anniversary edition model and the standard YZF-R15M model?
There are no mechanical changes in both models. Just a few changes have been made to the body graphics and colour scheme to enhance the grace of this anniversary edition. Rewiring the DNA of racing, it comes in a new white and red or as the company says speed block colour scheme. The new edition also sports golden-finished alloy wheels, black levers along with the Yamaha factory race-bike gold tuning fork emblems, and a special anniversary badging on the fuel tank.
Rest all other specifications remain same as on the standard YZF R15M model.
The 60th anniversary edition is powered by a 155cc, 4-stroke, liquid-cooled, SOHC, 4-valve engine that produces a maximum power of 18.4 PS at 10,000rpm, delivering a torque output of 14.2 Nm at 7,500rpm. The fuel-injected motor on this motorcycle is mated to a 6-speed gearbox with Variable Valve Actuation (VVA)
Some other features include a traction control system, a quick shifter for smooth clutchless upshifts, Bluetooth enabled Yamaha Motorcycle Connect, an LCD instrument cluster with gear shift indicator, linked-type mono cross rear suspension, and dual-channel ABS.
Speaking at the launch event, Eishin Chihana, Chairman of Yamaha Motor India Group of companies said, “The YZF-R15M in the WGP 60th anniversary livery is more than just a reminder of our racing legacy, it’s a milestone showcasing more than 500 world Grand Prix wins that Yamaha has achieved since 1961. It's a symbol of our unrivalled passion for racing, our belief in the power of the sport, and our commitment to support, safeguard and encourage the motorsports culture as a member of the Grand Prix paddock. We are extremely proud to share this milestone edition with Yamaha fans in India. Under the ‘The Call of the Blue’ strategy, we will continue to build excitement in the premium segment in India through such exclusive introductions in the future as well.”
