Sport Utility Vehicles or SUVs are taking over the world, but the majority of the SUVs spend their lifetime on paved roads. This is primarily because owners of such vehicles don’t often get opportunities to take their vehicles off-road in a safe and controlled manner. Off-roading as a culture is limited in India.
Folks at Apollo Tyres, who make tyres for Cars, SUVs and Bikes in India, felt their customers are not utilizing their products to the fullest and the maiden edition of #BadRoadBuddies, an off-roading event was born.
#BadRoadBuddies is a platform where anyone with an SUV of any make can join in and enjoy the thrill of off-roading under the guidance and supervision of experts and in a controlled environment. The experts design the off-roading tracks with various difficulty levels and with marshals and spotters at every obstacle. All safety aspects are taken care off with ambulance, recovery truck and service team present on location.
Speaking on the event, Neeraj Kanwar, Vice Chairman and Managing Director, Apollo Tyres Ltd said, “We wanted to provide budding off-roaders and enthusiasts a platform to come together and discover the roads less travelled across the vast Indian terrain. Bad Road Buddies is a special initiative curated by Apollo Tyres for them. We are extremely excited about our first edition of #BadRoadBuddies. This would also help the off-roaders experience the Apollo Apterra tyres, which are designed to tackle the rough roads with ease, making the journey more thrilling.”
The inaugural edition, spread over two days, saw a cavalcade of nearly 100 vehicles fitted with Apollo Apterra tyres travelling from Goa to Dandeli, and back, passing through some of the natural and man-made off-roading tracks
We had an opportunity to drive the Tata Hexa 4x4 with Apollo Apterra tyres, from Goa to Dhandeli and also complete an off-roading trail at Dhandeli. The Apterra tyres were excellent on-road and off-road both with low noise levels and high levels of grip.
In the final leg of the drive from Dhandeli to Quepem, there were 50 off-roaders, who were later joined by Sachin Tendulkar, brand ambassador for Apollo Tyres, Onkar S Kanwar, Chairman and Neeraj Kanwar, Vice Chairman and MD, Apollo Tyres Ltd. At Quepem, Five tracks were designed by experts with varying difficulty levels. Here we had the opportunity to drive the recently launched Nissan Kicks with Apollo Apterra tyres on the off-road tracks. We came out impressed with the grips levels offered by the tyres and Nissan Kicks as well. (More on Nissan Kicks off-roading experience later in another article)
Sachin Tendulkar, a known car enthusiast also went for quick off-roading on multiple tracks.
Navigating across some of the challenging terrains in their respective vehicles the adventure seekers of #BadRoadBuddies were offered a great opportunity to share an unmatched and unparalleled motoring experience.
