The much-anticipated car from Toyota was launched today at an event in Delhi. From the looks of it, the car seems to look like a rebadged version of the Suzuki Baleno. Let’s look at how it fares against the Baleno which has been around for quite a while and recently got a facelift at the start of 2019.
Engine and Transmission
The major mechanical features of the two cars are identical with the length, width, and height. They even have the same color scheme on the inside. The Baleno currently comes in 2 engine options with a 1248cc diesel engine and a 1197cc petrol engine. Depending on the fuel type the economy ranges from 21-27 kmpl. The price of the Baleno ranges from 5.59Lakh to 8.9Lakh. On the other hand, Glanza has the introductory engine which has been attractively priced at 7.22lakh-8.90lakh and the base variant comes with a mild hybrid engine producing 90hp of power which is 7hp more than the standard petrol engine. The hybrid engine comes with a 5-speed manual and the 1.2 liter comes with a 7 step CVT gearbox.
Features and Connectivity
Both the cars get a touchscreen infotainment system with satellite navigation and the Glanza’s infotainment system is called as the Smart Playcast which gets Apple Carplay and Android Auto and is the first system from Toyota to get these features. On the other hand, the Baleno gets the Suzuki system which is operated through the Suzuki Connect app which shows features like geo-fencing, driver behavior analysis, fuel efficiency and even live vehicles update. The Toyota connect app is pretty scarce in terms of features with standard features like location-based roadside assistance and a dealer locator. As far as the features are concerned the features from the Toyota are limited but are free for the first 12 months and the services from Suzuki comes with a price of Rs 10,000 for 3 years subscription-based service.
Warranty and Variants
Toyota offers a 3year/1,00,000 km warranty as standard which is seen on most Hyundai cars these days. As compared to Baleno, it will be offered with a 2year/40,000 km warranty. This dept. is an easy and a sure-shot win for Toyota. On the variants front, the new Glanza is offered in only 4 variants divided between two for the manual and two for CVT. The Baleno is offered in 4 variants but due to the two engine options and manual and automatic transmission, it makes up for nearly 11 options to choose from.
