The second-generation Hyundai Kona SUV has been unveiled. Information about the electric vehicle have been made public, but the Kona will also be offered with a hybrid engine, an internal combustion engine, and sporty N Line models.
The new Hyundai Kona is 150mm longer than the previous model at 4,355mm. Moreover, there has been a 25mm increase in width and a 60mm increase in wheelbase. The vehicle's sleek and aerodynamic design was influenced by Hyundai's Ioniq family. On all models, the front receives a full-width LED light strip with the headlight integrated lower down. The grille of the Kona Electric is blocked off, and the LED strip on the grille has a pixelated appearance.
Hyundai has upgraded the Kona with a new interior that resembles the Ioniq 5 electric SUV quite a bit. A single panel on the dash houses both a 12.3-inch infotainment display and a 12.3-inch instrument display. The cabin is substantially roomier than ICE-based platforms thanks to the electric architecture. The features include an eight-speaker Bose Premium sound system with a subwoofer, LED lighting, a Digital Key 2 Touch, Surround View Monitor, a 12-inch HUD projection on the windshield, USB-C connectors, and many more.
The brand-new Hyundai Kona has ADAS features. This includes the Driver Status Monitor, which makes use of an internal camera to scan the driver's face and detect signs of tiredness in order to inform the driver or possibly take action. By just pressing a button, the user of the Smart Parking Assist can move the car forward or backwards to park it in confined spaces. Also, it comes with speed limit assistance, lane-keeping assistance, highway driving assistance, forward collision avoidance, and blind-spot collision avoidance, to name a few.
For the Kona, Hyundai offers two battery options: a Standard Range battery and a Long Range battery. A 48.4 kWh battery pack drives a single electric motor with 153 horsepower and 255 Nm of torque for the Standard range. A 215bhp electric engine is combined with a 68.4kWh pack in the Long Range battery. Hyundai claims to have a single charge range of more than 490km.
The new Hyundai Kona has an i-Pedal (single-pedal) driving mode and the ability to serve as a Vehicle to Load. Hyundai recently introduced the Ioniq 5 electric SUV and only currently offers the previous-generation Kona in India as an EV. It will take some time before Hyundai can be more specific about the second-generation Kona's arrival in India.
