MG Motors unveils its first product for the Indian market - the MG Hector in Mumbai. Lets talk about the front of the MG Hector, a huge hexagonal grille dominates the look. A prominent chrome MG logo is placed in the center of the grille. Hector also comes with the latest design trend of having the DRL in place of the headlights like the Tata Harrier . The headlight cluster is all LED. A faux skid plate in satin silver finish completes the front design elements.
The MG Hector is one of the longest SUVs in the Indian market measuring 4655 mm in length. 18" diamond cut alloys gives the Hector smart side profile. Hector sports a strong shoulder line with a floating roof.
At the rear Hector comes with an all led tail lights with a huge MG logo in the center. The rear glass is smaller than expected. The limited use of chrome is a welcome change. The rear tail gate is also electrically operated.
When we move on to the interiors of the MG Hector, the mammoth 10 inch screen in the center of the dashboard, this screen is the interface to the brain of the Hector. The minimalistic theme continues, with very leas buttons overall. The seats and overall quality of the interiors feel upmarket and premium. oh and did we mention there is panoramic sunroof available too.
MG Motors has brought the Hector with two powertrain - 2.0L Turbo Diesel with 170 horses and a 1.5 L Turbo Petrol with 143 horses on tap. Both the engines are mated to a 6 Speed dual clutch transmission.
Whether MG Motor India tastes success with The Hector will all depend on the pricing strategy, with high levels of localisation achieved by the company, MG can price the Hector competitively and that could really shake up the market.
