Year 2023 Was Reasonably Satisfactory For Automobile Sector: SIAM President

According to the apex national body representing all major vehicle and vehicular engine manufacturers in India, SIAM, the total production of Passenger Vehicles, Three Wheelers, Two Wheelers and Quadricycle in the month of December 2023 was 18,96,696 units

Domestic Sales:

♦ Passenger Vehicles sales were 2,86,390 units in December 2023.

♦ Three-wheeler sales were 50,537 units in December 2023.

♦ Two-wheeler sales were 12,11,966 units in December 2023.

This number doesn't include sales of BMW, Mercedes, JLR, Tata Motors & Volvo Auto. Tata Motors Domestic Sales data for December included only in this document.

Quarterly Performance: October - December 2023

Total production of Passenger Vehicles, Commercial Vehicles, Three Wheelers, Two Wheelers and Quadricycle in October - December 2023 was 71,32,689 units.

Domestic Sales:

♦ Passenger Vehicles3 sales were 10,12,285 units in October– December 2023.

♦ Commercial Vehicles4 sales were 2,35,167 units in October – December 2023.

♦ Three-wheeler sales were 1,87,215 units in October – December 2023.

♦ Two-wheeler sales were 47,31,164 units in October – December 2023.

Financial Year Performance: April - December 2023

Total production of Passenger Vehicles, Commercial Vehicles, Three Wheelers, Two Wheelers and Quadricycle in April - December 2023 was 2,10,40,248 units.

Domestic Sales:

♦ Passenger Vehicles sales were 30,83,245 units in April – December 2023.

♦ Commercial Vehicles sales were 6,99,507 units in April – December 2023.

♦ Three-wheeler sales were 5,26,905 units in April – December 2023.

♦ Two-wheeler sales were 1,34,70,570 units in April – December 2023.

Calendar Year Performance: January - December 2023

Total production of Passenger Vehicles, Commercial Vehicles, Three Wheelers, Two Wheelers and Quadricycle in January - December 2023 was 2,71,43,580 units.

Domestic Sales:

♦ Passenger Vehicles sales were 41,01,600 units in January - December 2023.

♦ Commercial Vehicles sales were 9,78,385 units in January - December 2023.

♦ Three-wheeler sales were 6,80,550 units in January - December 2023.

♦ Two-wheeler sales were 1,70,75,160 units in January - December 2023.

This data doesn't include sales of BMW, Mercedes, JLR, Volvo Auto, Daimler, JBM Auto & Scania.

Commenting on sales data of 2023 calendar year, Vinod Aggarwal, President of SIAM said, “Year 2023 has been reasonably satisfactory for the Automobile Sector, as Passenger Vehicles, Commercial Vehicles and Two Wheelers have posted single digit growth, while three- wheelers have made a very good recovery. Various schemes of Government of India that have been operational now, are showing good results, and is also helping the Auto Industry to seamlessly transform to new powertrain realms. Auto Industry is optimistic that the growth momentum would continue in year 2024 as well.”

Commenting on Q3 sales data, Rajesh Menon, Director General of SIAM said, “In Q3 of FY 2023-24, Passenger Vehicles grew by 8.3 per cent, Commercial Vehicles by 3.5 per cent, three-wheelers by 35.2 per cent and two-wheelers by 22.6 per cent compared to last year. Passenger Vehicle and three-wheeler segments posted their highest Q3 Sales ever, while Passenger Vehicles even crossed the 4 million mark for the first time, in a calendar year.”
