Harley Davidson To Exit India: Reports

American motorcycle manufacturer Harley-Davidson might soon exit the Indian market due to its poor sales performance. The Hindu has reported that the motorcycle maker has sent out feelers to a few automakers through consultants for a possible outsourcing arrangement using its leased assembly facility at Bawal in Haryana.

To recall, Harley Davidson had already mentioned in their second-quarter results last month that the company is evaluating plans to exit international markets where volume and profitability do not support continued investment in line with the future strategy.

Undoubtedly, India is one of the markets where the US motorcycle manufacturer is struggling with the sales number. The company has sold fewer than 2,500 units in the last fiscal year. In the period of April-June 2020, the company only able to sell just 100 Harleys in India. These figures really make India as one of the worst-performing markets.

The US Motorcycle manufacturer had announced their new 'Rewire' strategy in which the company will be focusing on 50 markets. This includes North America, Europe, and other parts of Asia Pacific.
