The upcoming 5-door version of the Mahindra Thar will be officially named as “Thar Roxx.” The company has teased the new design ahead of its grand debut on August 15.
The Thar Roxx showcases a refreshed look with a redesigned grille, modern LED headlights, tail lamps, and stylish dual-tone alloy wheels. The vehicle is set to impress with a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a panoramic sunroof, and potentially advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).
The Thar Roxx will be available with a 2.2-litre diesel engine and a 2-litre turbo-petrol engine, offering both rear-wheel and all-wheel drive configurations.
Mahindra has officially renamed its 5-door Thar to the “Thar Roxx.” Alongside this unveil, the brand has released the first teaser for the extended Thar, giving a sneak peek before its launch on August 15.
To differentiate the Thar Roxx from its 3-door counterpart, Mahindra has introduced several design changes. The most noticeable is the new body-coloured slatted grille, giving the front end a more aggressive look. The updated LED headlights now feature C-shaped LED daytime running lights. The bumpers also sport a contrasting silver finish, unlike the all-black bumpers on the 3-door version.
The new 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels give the Thar Roxx a premium appearance. The extended wheelbase and additional rear doors are significant updates, providing easier access to the rear seats. Enthusiasts will also notice the squared-off rear wheel arches, a departure from the round arches on the 3-door model. At the back, new LED tail lamps with an inverted C motif and a new spare wheel cover, as seen in previous spy shots, enhance the design.
While the dashboard layout of the Thar Roxx is similar to the 3-door version, it features beige-coloured upholstery for a more upscale feel. It also boasts numerous premium features, including a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a panoramic sunroof, keyless entry with push-button start, and a 360-degree camera. Safety features are expected to include up to six airbags, ABS with EBD, front and rear parking sensors, electronic stability control, and ADAS.
The Thar Roxx will come with the same engines as the 3-door model: a 132 PS 2.2-litre diesel and a 150 PS 2-litre turbo-petrol, possibly with increased power. Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual and a torque converter automatic, with both rear-wheel and all-wheel drive options available.
Expected to start around Rs. 15 lakh (ex-showroom), the Mahindra Thar Roxx will compete with the Force Gurkha 5-door and serve as a larger alternative to the Maruti Suzuki Jimny.
