Tesla Recalls Over 9,000 Model X SUVs Due To Roof Trim Risk, NHTSA Reports

This recall, unlike Tesla's usual software updates, requires a physical fix, highlighting the importance of addressing even minor safety concerns in their vehicles.

Tesla is recalling 9,136 Model X SUVs due to a potential issue with the roof trim that could detach and increase the risk of a crash, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

Unlike Tesla’s usual approach of addressing issues via over-the-air software updates, this recall requires physical intervention. The recall underscores the importance of addressing safety concerns even for an automaker as innovative as Tesla.

In the first half of the year, Tesla recalled nearly 2.6 million vehicles in the U.S., second only to Ford, which has recalled about 3.6 million vehicles during the same period, as reported by recall management platform Bizzycar.

The NHTSA’s letter, dated August 20, highlighted that the front and center roof cosmetic trim pieces on some Model X vehicles might not have been properly adhered due to the absence of primer. Without proper adhesion, these trim pieces could eventually detach from the vehicle, potentially creating road hazards and increasing the risk of accidents.
