Uber To Provide Free Transport To Plasma Donors

Uber is facilitating UberMedic rides, free of cost, for transporting plasma donors to the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS), which houses the country’s first plasma bank. It is also encouraging recovered citizens to support the Chief Minister’s appeal to come forward and help those in need.

Speaking about the partnership, Prabhjeet Singh, Director, Operations and Head of Cities, Uber India & South Asia, said, “The Delhi Government has been working tirelessly to contain the spread of COVID-19 and this partnership symbolizes our contribution to support Delhi and its residents. Over the coming few days and weeks we will facilitate UberMedic trips/rides for free to Covid-19 recovered citizens to make vital plasma donations for saving lives. We feel privileged to be supporting the government in these challenging times and are committed to helping our cities on the path of recovery.”

Since the outbreak of the pandemic, Uber has launched multiple initiatives to support the government and communities across the country. In April, Uber offered free rides worth INR 75 lakhs to the Delhi Government for emergency services to transport frontline healthcare workers and facilitated200 UberMedic cars, free of charge, to transport non-COVID patients in coordination with the Centralized Ambulance Trauma Services (CATS) Ambulance Helpline.

To maintain the highest safety and hygiene standards, all UberMedic cars providing trips to ILBS are being fitted with a roof-to-floor plastic sheeting enclosing the driver, thereby limiting contact with the rider. Additionally, drivers will be given safety kits that will include masks, sanitizers, gloves and disinfectants to sanitize the cars between rides.

Over the past few weeks, Uber has also launched a comprehensive set of safety measures, such as the Go Online Checklist, a mandatory mask policy for both riders and drivers, pre-trip mask verification selfies for drivers, mandatory driver education and an updated cancellation policy allowing both riders and driver to cancel trips if they don’t feel safe.
