Hero Electric said it has inked an MoU with Rajasthan's state government to build what it calls a "mega factory" for its electric scooters across the nation. Hero Electric goes on to say that this factory would be able to produce about two million units per year.
The new Hero Electric factory would be situated on 170 acres in the Salarpur industrial sector, some 80 kilometers from Delhi, the capital of India. Production is expected to start in 2023 using robotics and the most advanced machinery available. Utilizing sustainable and renewable energy sources is also highlighted here.
The Hero Electric facility is being built at a cost of over 1,200 crores, and the business promises it will create both direct and indirect job opportunities for locals. However, no information on the number of hires that would be made has been given. However, the business emphasises that by building this plant, Rajasthan would further solidify its reputation as a centre for EV production. According to Naveen Munjal, MD of Hero Electric, "We are grateful to the Rajasthan government for their cooperation in setting up our third greenfield factory that will help develop a circular economy in the Salarpur industrial area." "This massive production plant is a component of our capacity-enhancement efforts to increase EV adoption in India. It would enable the state to lead the transition to clean mobility solutions and encourage eco-friendly tourism."
Currently, Hero Electric, one of the top participants in the electric scooter market, has its main manufacturing plant in Ludhiana, Punjab. Additionally, the firm claims to be increasing the number of its over 850 sales and service facilities across the nation, which is important given that it wants to add to the over five lakh devices that it has already sold in the Indian market.
