In December, Mercedes-Benz will introduce two new SUVs in India. The Mercedes-Benz GLB and its electric counterpart, the EQB, will go on sale in the nation on December 2, 2022, the carmaker has confirmed. In the automaker's lineup, the GLB sits above the GLA as a small, luxurious seven-seater SUV. The first seven-seater model in the luxury EV market will be the EQB. The Mercedes-Benz EQB, which follows the EQC in the company's electric lineup, will also be the most affordable EV for the brand. Bookings for a token of Rs. 1.5 lakh for both offerings are currently open.
The AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+ and the locally produced EQS 580 4MATIC are the automaker's first two electric models for this year. The Mercedes-Benz EQB will be the third. However, it is anticipated that the EQB will first ship as a Completely Built Unit (CBU), however demand may eventually lead to local assembly.
Multiple variations of the electric SUV EQB are available globally. The most approachable EQB 250 produces 188 horsepower and 385 Nm of peak torque. The EQB 300 4MATIC produces 225 horsepower and a maximum torque of 390 Nm. The top-spec EQB 350 4MATIC produces 520 Nm of peak torque and 288 horsepower. There is a 66.5 kWh battery option with a 330 km (WLTP cycle) range. There is also the larger 70.7 kWh unit, which offers a single charge a 391 km (WLTP cycle) range.
With regard to the Mercedes-Benz GLB, the company's easily accessible seven-seater luxury SUV, young families who would value the extra row at the back will love it. The second seven-seater SUV in the company's lineup, the model is intended to resemble a small GLS. Prices may be slightly higher since the GLB will also ship as a CBU from the Mercedes plant in Mexico. The GLB has a slightly shorter wheelbase than the GLC, measuring 2,829 mm instead of 2,873 mm. The dual displays, leather steering wheel, multi-function steering wheel, and other interior features significantly resemble the GLA.
All additional features should be retained as well. The GLB also has a respectable boot capacity of roughly 150 liters when all three rows are up.
When the back seats are folded, the volume increases to 570 liters, which is 20 liters higher than the GLC.
The 2.0-liter diesel engine with 188 horsepower and 400 Nm of peak torque in the 220d model paired with an 8-speed automated transmission is most likely to power the Mercedes-Benz GLB. A 2.0-liter engine with 161 horsepower and 250 Nm of peak torque will also be available for the GLB 200 petrol, which will be mated to a 7-speed automatic transmission. Another possibility is an AWD with 4MATIC.
