Mercedes-Benz has recently unveiled the new EQE electric SUV. This car is based on the EVA2 electric vehicle platform. The EQE SUV, along with its sedan variant and the EQS sedan and SUV, is the fourth model to be supported by the platform.
The design of the new EQE still holds the traditional EQ family design with an enclosed grille and light bars merging with the LED DRLs. Lower down on the bumper is an air inlet with faux vents on either side and black cladding for a more muscular appearance. The EQE maintains the EQS's sleek lines down the sides, but the roofline has a steeper taper towards the back and the tailgate is also more sloped. The full-width lightbar featured on other EQ models is present in the rear.
The EQE SUV is physically smaller than its sedan cousin, with a wheelbase that has been reduced from 3,120mm to 3,030mm. In comparison to the sedan, which has a length of 4,946 mm, the SUV is narrower, measuring 1,9140 mm as opposed to 1,961 mm. Regarding the inside, the client can choose between two distinct dashboard designs for the EQE. When the hyper screen option is selected, the dashboard is dominated by a gigantic 17.7-inch centre touchscreen, a 12.3-inch digital instrument display, and two specialised co-driver touchscreens. The centre console on non-Hyperscreen variants features a touchscreen that is oriented in portrait mode. AMG variants have sportier materials, AMG steering, and sport front seats in addition to variant-specific digital screen graphics.
Moving on to the drivetrains, the EQE SUV is offered with both rear- and all-wheel drive. The Base EQE 350+ has a single rear-wheel-drive powertrain that has a 288 horsepower and 565 Nm output. While power remains constant, torque is increased to 765 Nm in the EQE 350 4Matic due to the addition of an electric motor to the front axle. The top model in the basic EQE line-up, the EQE 500 4Matic, has electric motors that produce a combined 402 horsepower and 858 Nm. Standard equipment includes a 90.6 kWh battery pack with a maximum stated range of 590 kilometres (WLTP).
With adaptive air suspension available as an option, the EQE comes standard with four-link independent front and multi-link independent rear suspension. As an alternative, rear-wheel steering is also offered.
Moving on to the AMGs, the EQE 43 increases power to 469 bhp while maintaining a similar peak torque to the EQE 500. The AMG EQE 53 goes one step further, producing 617 horsepower and 950 pound-feet of torque, which can be temporarily increased to 677 horsepower and 1,000 pound-feet of torque with the boost function in Race Start mode. Air suspension is standard on the AMG models, and rear-wheel steering and active roll stabilisation are standard on the EQE 53.
Slippery, Comfort, Sport, Sport Plus, and Race are the exclusive drive modes available on AMG cars. While Race and Sport Plus give you access to the entire power available, Slippery restricts power to 50%. The AMG Dynamic Plus package, which also increases the peak speed to 240 kmph, adds the Boost feature.
