Mumbai Traffic Police To Penalise People Soon For Not Wearing Seatbelts

Mumbai traffic police are making it mandatory for passengers to wear seatbelts while driving or seating in the car. Mumbai police circulated information through a notice regarding the implementation. The move has come after the death of Cyrus Mistry, former Chairman of Tata Motors, who died in a road accident. He was sitting on the back seats without wearing the seatbelt at that time.

The notice says “As per the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act, 2019, under section 194(b) (1) Whoever drives a motor vehicle without wearing a safety belt or carries passengers not wearing seat belts shall be punishable.”

Mumbai Police has given some time for the vehicles to get seatbelts installed if they don't have them for all commuters. The period is being given till date 01/11/2022 to the commuters.

Therefore, All motor vehicle drivers and all commuters in vehicles, whoever travels on the roads of Mumbai City are hereby informed that it will be mandatory for drivers and all passengers to wear seat belts while traveling from 01/11/2022. Otherwise, action will be taken under Section 194(B)(1) of the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act, 2019.

Recently Delhi Police also had a campaign to aware people, of wearing seatbelts while sitting on back seats as well and 17 people were penalised at Barakhamba Road and Connaught Place. From January to August, no one was penalsied for not wearing seatbelts while sitting on the back seat.
