The high-riding 911 variant's name has been officially confirmed by Porsche, and its premiere at the L.A. Motor Show is scheduled for November 17, 2022. The new model will be known as the 911 Dakar in honor of Porsche's triumph in the 1984 Paris-Dakar rally while driving a modified 911. According to the manufacturer, the new model will have good off-road capability after the company completed over 10,000 km of testing in tough terrain.
According to Porsche, the 911 Dakar has been put through its paces in Sweden's snow and ice during testing, which also included two-time WRC champion Walter Rohrl. The model was tested on sand and dunes in the Middle East and Morocco, as well as at the Château de Lastours test track in southern France, which serves as a training ground for Dakar racers.
Porsche has not yet provided any technical information about the model, but pictures of the test cars show a vehicle with noticeably flared wheel arches and significant ground clearance. Regarding the engine, it is rumored that the car will utilise the 911 Carrera S unit, with power being routed to all four wheels.
