Helmet manufacturer, Steelbird Hi-tech India (SBHT) has introduced a new range of Helmets - the Blauer Bet. The company says that the new range is in sync with the brand's motto of making the rider's life safer.
The main highlight about the new range of Blauer Bet helmets is that they meet the new European Safety Standards-ECE 22.06, which will be mandatory for the helmet manufacturers to adhere to with effect from January 2024.
After January 2024, riders can still legally wear their older helmet but any new helmet supplied by a manufacturer to a distributor or retailer will have to be certified as ECE 22.06.
A helmet goes through a series of tests to meet the standard requirement. The test is called the Head Injury Criterion (HIC) where a dummy wears a helmet that has accelerometers inside to analyze the maximum acceleration to calculate the damage suffered by the head in the event of an accident. The test also involves shock absorption, retention systems and unseating of the helmet.
Helmet accessories such as integrated sun visors will have standards that they will need to meet to pass testing.
